Red Bull Cold Rush ~ part duex

Hot damn.  What an amazing 5 days.  Retallack‘s 2nd year of hosting this pinnacle event of the freeskiing calender surpassed all expectations.  There’s no stoke machine quite like it anywhere in the skiing world and I know just how lucky I am to have been a part of it again.  For a complete account of the action on snow please visit the Cold Rush / Newschooler’s site for epic video coverage from the Freeride crew.  Most of my action images will be out for editorial submission soon so you’ll have to hold tight to see them.  If I get lucky one may just end up in your mailbox next fall.  So, what I will share are some of the behind the scenes moments that don’t make the highlight reels.  The set-up, logistics, waiting games and apres debauchery.  You know, the fun stuff.

Axle from Freeride

Sean Pettit and the MTV crew

Axle setting up for the Texas Big Mtn Event on the opposing ridge

Kevin Arcuri wants his 15 minutes of fame…enjoy it buddy

Dash, Riley, TJ, Tanner and Bene get their first look at Texas.

Texas

Not a bad way to travel to the top of Texas

TJ Schiller calls in his line choice to the Freeride crew while MTV shoves a camera in his face.

Dash Longe waiting around for the athlete’s meeting on Day 2.

Claudia getting some ice on what was soon to be a wicked shiner from a knee to the face.

Sven Kueenle was victim # 2 on day 2 when he tweaked his knee.

Day 3 brought some weather challenges for both man and machine.

Heli drop was a good ways down from the start zone for the PME Cliffs event.

Even rock stars like Pettit have to boot up the hill.

All smiles at the top for run # 2.

A couple of LONG weather holds to wait out the clouds and valley fog gave us plenty of time to enjoy Marty’s fine banjo action.  Notice the MTV mic.  Marty’s gonna be HUGE in Japan come summer.

With the ping pong room turned into an editing suite the only choice was to turn the cat barn into the first annual Cold Rush Ping Pong Tourney.

Damn…Arcuri again.  Huge in Japan this summer bro.  Huge!

Here’s where things start to get blurred…

Patron.  Lot’s of Patron.

Grete with the cocktail bucket.  This ain’t her first rodeo.

Dash destroying the frame while rocking out with CR.

Yeah…that pretty much sums up Friday night.

Blake Jorgenson and Derek Westerlund…I think.

All in all a busy 5 days:

2000 miles driven

140 miles on the snowmobile

2 heli rides

3600 images

1 hour of video

and at least 1 bottle of patron killed

Big thanks to Red Bull and Retallack for making this happen and allowing me to be a part of it again.  It’s def. the icing on the big fat cake that is winter.  Hopefully we can all do it again in 51 weeks.
