Go West…

Well, things are decidedly better than they were 24 hours ago. The damage from the weekends epic deluge of high elevation rain is still present with a rock hard 1″ think layer of ice seemingly everywhere, but at least it’s now covered in a right side up 14″ blanket of love. Steve Lloyd and I started the day with a bit of braaaaaap action up on Guardsman Pass where I was once again able to prove my total lack of skill on a sled. I think I need to take a full year off of skiing and just learn the art of snowmobiling. Conditions were mixed, with blower over the hood pow hiding the ice layer that would take a counter steering sled all kinds of fun new radical directions anytime the carbides would hook up. Def not an ego boosting outing but it’s always fun to start the day off with some two stroke fumes and good company.
Once we tired of humiliating ourselves in the meadows we found our way down canyon a bit to Solitude which was holding the OR on snow demo’s and about as crowded as you’ll ever see it. We had to park at Brighton because the lots were beyond capacity. Once on sight we hooked up with Jason West and proceded to enter the uber bro brah industry scene in full G.N.A.R. mode. A few mellow call outs quickly escalated into an all day claiming event. We even managed to go ski some stuff, which was fun. We milked every ounce of white gold we could find and I poached Steve’s athlete at every shooting set up. Thanks Steve. I swear I’ll never contact Jason or shoot trees at Solitude again.
While it was hotly contested all day, it turns out that Steve Lloyd was in fact the best skier on the mountain, putting on an epic display of call outs from our arrival at the lower lot all the way to the village after the lifts stopped spinning. It was a relentless onslaught. Rare form indeed. All in all this was a rather pleasant day in the Wasatch. I mean does it get any better than late afternoon untracked over the head blower at Solitude? Thank god no one from OR had a clue as to where to go looking for it. Big thanks to uber athlete Jason West for doing what he and Steve have proven time and time again they do so well. Very cool to get to spy into your dynamic.
