Sheep and Lightning

July 27th, 2010

Managed to sort out the fault that had crippled the Tundra the day before and was able to bring Tonka along for a drive up and over Wolf Creek Pass in the Unitas.  I even managed to bring the ball head for the tripod rig.  Weather was getting interesting as a monsoonal flow was surging [...]

Self-Portrait

May 29th, 2010

Just messin’ with some lighting and photoshop techniques. You create an overlay image to “wrap” around the portrait using a dislpacement mapping technique.  Kinda fun. This is a variation on the  technique and concept  that I first toyed with in 2007  one the “One Man, One Vote” image.

Gambled and lost?

April 9th, 2010

I rolled the dice on Monday night as the weather forecast was epic with 30″ plus forecast over the next 48 hours in Little Cottonwood Canyon.  Got a super deal on a room at the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird and wagered that I’d be better off not having to drive back and forth with 4-10″ [...]

Insert rider here…

January 4th, 2010

Like the snow, light is fleeting.  The best light occurs in small windows at either end of a day.  In these windows time seems to move at triple speed.  Here’s what could have been a skiing shot we were scrambling to get in position for and just missed by about 30 seconds. I fired off [...]

Superior in full formal attire…

December 15th, 2009

With Alta / Bird as my new home mountain there’s been a bit of a shake up in the morning ritual.  In order to miss traffic on the drive south my days are starting pretty early.  Once I drop Tonka at the canine amusement park that is Dogmode I’m ending up at Alta about an [...]

Little lotto…

October 14th, 2009

Every once in a while there’s an image that slips through the cracks.  Either it wasn’t quite what you wanted it to be when it was shot or there just wasn’t a place for it in the portfolio.  No matter, it falls from your radar and vanishes into the abyss of hard drive space.  Like [...]

Taste the rainbow…

October 1st, 2009

I’m kicking myself for sleeping through my alarm today and missing what had to have been a most epic sunrise.  With the fall colors still exploding, a fresh coat of snow and wispy clouds dancing on a deep blue sky I really blew it.  That said, it was so pretty I went up to Snowbasin [...]

Mom, these are for you!

September 3rd, 2009

Scouting the light and location of an upcoming shoot meant firing off some self portraits. Took a while to get the focus nailed down because of the very thin depth of field I was shooting (85mm @ f/1.6) and trying to stand in the spot you saw through the viewfinder is easier said than done.  [...]

Tonka

September 2nd, 2009

Been fighting off some flu bug and in hopes of not becoming a statistic of the h1n1 swine plague I’ve been trying to lay low around the house.  Doesn’t take long before I’m assembling gear and light rigs putting on a  strobe show for the neighbors.  I can only imagine what the house looks like [...]

help-portrait.com

August 30th, 2009

This Help-Portrait thing popped up on @zackarias blog (watch the vid) a few days ago and I think I need to come up with a plan to be a part of it in some fashion.  There’s something wonderful in it and am really interested to see what I come up with.  I already spoke with [...]
